Early 2000s Prom Staple, Eve 6, Gloriously Roasts 90s Rock Goons on Twitter

To paraphrase their own Twitter account, their irrelevance has made them relevant again.
Early 2000s Prom Staple, Eve 6, Gloriously Roasts 90s Rock Goons on Twitter

Late '90s alternative fans, music industry cynics, and anyone over the age of 35 who has fond memories of attending a high school dance rejoice! Eve 6, the alternative rock trio behind the iconic prom anthem, "Here's To The Night," is back, and this time, lighting the Twitterverse aflame with their gloriously antagonistic quips, roasting pretty much anyone whos' anyone in the world of early 2000's alternative rock. From questioning the, erm, sanctity of Steve Harwell's bowels ...

...  to seemingly calling out Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins as the alleged d-bag he is ...

... and even side-eyeing sellout culture and that one dude from Tonic ...

... Eve 6 has unexpectedly appeared as a master of Mariah Carey-esque "I don't know her" level shade.  Often referring to their musical peers only as the "guy" from their respective bands before subtly, and expertly roasting them into oblivion, this ingenious Twitter snark has brought them back to the forefront of our cultural, er, Twitter-al lexicon, in an exciting blast from the butterfly clip-era past.

Now, I know what some of my fellow zoomers may be thinking right about now -- "who the hell are these guys and why are they coming for that one dude who sings the Shrek song that may or may not be about climate change?" First of all, considering Harwell's questionable comments about Covid-19 while playing for a mostly mask-less crowd at South Dakota's Sturgis Rally back in August, he clearly "ain't the sharpest tool in the shed."

Secondly, in full transparency, I asked the same question myself less than 20 hours ago. Considering none of Eve 6's songs appeared in classic 2000's kids movies and the fact that I didn't attend prom until 2014, I had no idea who these guys were until yesterday, when my boss sent me a tip about this story. Yet less than a day after learning of their existence, I must say, my life, playlists -- and of course, Twitter feed -- are now much better for knowing of them, a seemingly common notion they even appeared to acknowledge over the weekend. "Our irrelevance is making us relevant," they tweeted on Saturday, seemingly referencing their social media resurgence.

And it's not just their "irrelevance" that has brought them in the social media spotlight. Over the past few months, the band, which first joined Twitter back in 2008, found their digital voice, taking a bold, no holds barred approach to poking fun at both the music industry and the legacy of older artists, dunking on their '90s counterparts ...

... their touring schedule,

... seemingly disingenuous, corporate tribute posts to deceased musical legends ...

... and calling out Pitchfork's weird review criteria, which once even led pop star Halsey to accidentally call for another 9/11 attack.

Aside from this, Eve 6 has also managed to do the impossible, turn one of their songs into a meme, asking everyone from Tool,

 ... CNN's Wolf Blitzer ...

.... and even POTUS's kid ....

... for their opinions on the apparently virgin-penned sad boi anthem, "Inside Out"

Eve 6, the Twitter gift that keeps on giving! So, reader, I propose a toast. Here's the to the night -- where the band came back, and decided to tweet about Steve Harwell's digestive tract. I guess we can have nice things in 2020 after all.
