'Black Mirror's' Charlie Brooker Reportedly Working on 2020 Mockumentary for Netflix

Charlie Brooker, the dark genius behind techno-horror anthology series Black Mirror is finally back, and this time, recounting the scariest dystopian story known to man -- the tale of 2020. Earlier this week, actor Hugh Grant, who stars in HBO miniseries, The Undoing, may have revealed the sci-fi drama creator's latest project, a satire about the dumpster fire that has been the past year. "I'm doing a thing tomorrow, actually Charlie Brooker [the creator of Black Mirror] has written a mockumentary about 2020," the British actor told Vulture in an article published on Monday. "It's for Netflix, and I am a historian who's being interviewed about the year. I'm pretty repellent, actually! And you'll like my wig."

Although the streaming giant has yet to announce any such production, the AV Club reports, Grant's synopsis seems to fall in line with Brooker's comments about honing his comedy chops earlier this year, as, you know, maybe audiences aren't too excited about the prospects of watching the harrowing tales of technology-based futuristic hellscape in the midst of a virus-based futuristic hellscape.  â€œAt the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart," he told the Radio Times of Black Mirror's future back in May, during the pandemic's first wave. "So I'm not working away on one of those. I'm sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh."

Considering Brooker says viewers often "overlook" his humor, which has historically included SPOILER ALERT -- Ashley O (a.k.a  Miley Cyrus) screaming in existential terror via toy robot, a teen pedophile pissing himself while robbing a bank, and a prime minister having sex with a pig for literally no reason, it'll be interesting to see what a true comedic satire looks like from the genius behind Black Mirror. Let's hope he's been "On A Roll" since his May interview.
