Getting in trouble sucks. It's one of the earliest lessons we learn as kids. And sure, we often deserve it, and taking punishments and/or talking-tos is part of growing up (just ask our parole officers. Hang on, we need to make a phone call real quick…)

 

Okay, we're back! Anyway, getting in trouble is part of life. But sometimes, it's for totally unreasonable, uh, reasons. Bosses are frequently jerks, workplace rules often make no sense. You think HR's on your side, but all of the sudden you're the one being dragged off the premises because Kevin Of All People stole your shrimp fried rice out of the fridge, even though it was clearly labeled. We asked Cracked readers on Facebook, “What’s the strangest reason you were reprimanded at work?” The most common response we heard was from women who were yelled at for the way they dressed. TELL US NOW. DON'T LET IT SNOW Rachel G. says, I was called in to my boss's office and scolded for being excited about the first snowfall of the season. I literally had just made a comment that it was beautiful. She informed me that she did not like snow, and she did not want to hear that anymore in her office. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. Pau v. shares, Teaching at an English academy, I was reprimanded that my 'clothes' were the cause for a male student (9-10 years old) who masturbated in class. I was asked to 'wear ugly clothes' to help with the problem. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. RKK-CATION -> Jennifer C. got in frouble at work for not answering my phone when they called to ask me if I wanted to cover a shift. I was on my honeymoon, in another country, on a vacation time that had been approved 4 months ahead of time. I was told I needed to be available. I was a part-time cashier at a retail store, not like the only person in the world who could perform a life-saving medical procedure. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. Melissa L. shares, I was working at a property management company who wanted to change the uniform from polo shirts to sun dresses with spaghetti straps. I refused to wear it, I'm large chested, and was fired. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. HOLD UP A SECOND Stuart P. shares, After ordering business cards, my boss called me into her office and asked why I included 'the suffix' on the end of my name. I explained it wasn't a suffix, it was my legal name, which ends in a 'II!' She got flustered and told me my name was stupid and that I should get it changed. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. Colleen D. says, I was fired from a waitressing job because I wouldn't let the drunken old guys at the bar smack my arse when I walked by, and they complained about it. I was only there two months, and boy was it satisfying to see that awful pub go under..twice. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. PUNISHED FOR SUCCESS John W. shares, I did too well. The upper management actually wanted a certain program to fail, so they could be rid of it. I was not told this but to 'make it work.' So I actually made it work, and was punished for succeeding and for 'not following leadership's vision for the program.' CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. LOGOLESS Terry W. says, I was once reprimanded for not wearing a company logo shirt. We worked remotely from home. They're lucky I was wearing pants. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. LAUGHING TOO MUCH Gayle B. says that they were told, Stop laughing. If you're laughing, you're not working. Then was told the next week, We need to talk about your attitude problem. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. HULKING OVER HULK Jennifer B. says, I was working as a graphic designer and I made a sign with a picture of The Incredible Hulk. The sign asked people not to slam the door to our office because slamming the door makes US angry, and you wouldn't like US when we're angry. The owner saw the sign, ripped it off the wall, and marched to my supervisor's office to demand that she write me up for the sign. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. Angela G. tells US, I was told that my exposed shoulders were too attractive to my male co-workers and I should never let them be exposed again as it would be very tempting. (For what, I am unsure.) The manager informed me that she had discussed the issue with her husband (a person that I had never met!) and he agreed that I should be more circumspect about my sartorial choices. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. LET YOUR HAIR DOWN Katy D. says, Because I wore my hair in a ponytail most days. I worked in a bank, and even though I dressed professionally my manager pulled me aside to tell me I needed to 'do' (curl and style) my hair every day. CRACKED.COM
TELL US NOW. FORK OFF Shane R. tells US they got in trouble because the manager thought I said 'f**k' instead of 'fork.' Even after two staff members and a customer told him differently. TELL US NOW. TOO CLEAN Chris F. says, In the midst of a pandemic, memos sent out to all employees to clean every surface between every customer. The very next day I'm pulled into a meeting with the area manager to talk about the complaints one staff member made about me cleaning 'too often. CRACKED.COM

TELL US NOW. NOT AWESOME Matthew S. was reprimanded at work when I used the word 'awesome' in an email. I was not being sarcastic in my reply, the person I was responding to really helped me out and it was awesome. Someone who was CC'd on it (as a matter of 'need to know, not even directly involved) complained. CRACKED.COM
