Over the past several decades, our cultural zeitgeist has been blessed with a breadth of spectacularly tense celebrity beef. Paris Hilton vs. Nicole Richie. Azealia Banks vs. pretty much everybody. Rudy Giuliani vs. his hair mascara, landscaping companies, and allegedly, his own damn digestive tract. But over the past few days, a brand new pseudo-feud has emerged, vying for a place in the history books (which in this case, are the stiff, nearly mummified copies of OK! magazine at your mother's hairdresser) – the newly-squashed (and relatively non-existent) beef between acclaimed actor, Jonah Hill, and acclaimed cutie, Baby Yoda.

Ending nearly as quickly as it began, the squabble between America's and Coruscant's respective sweethearts ignited last week after Hill told W magazine that he usually steers clear of TV series that fall under the genre of sci-fi/fantasy. “I don’t watch sci-fi and stuff like that, so I had never seen Game of Thrones,” Hill said during the interview, published Thursday. "I used to have a rule: If it didn't happen or it couldn't happen, then I just wasn't interested, because I would lose focus," he added.

But alongside apparently jettisoning this policy to recently binge-watch Game of Thrones, Hill made another notable exception to this rule – watching The Mandalorian, Disney+'s Star Wars spin-off, at the behest of his Don't Look Up co-star/serial 20-something dater, Leonardo DiCaprio,

Leo made me watch The Mandalorian when we were making Don't Look Up," Hill recalled. "And it was like, Baby Yoda was so cute, but I just didn't give a fuck because I didn't know anything that it was about,” he said before elaborating further on his experience watching Game of Thrones. “Game of Thrones is so sick. I know this is hilarious, because I'm in 2012. I'm just watching three episodes at a time, like you would binge any show," he continued. "But I forget this happened in real-time and was like a cultural event. So I watched the Red Wedding, as one of three episodes I watched that night. I'm calling friends, like, ‘Oh my god, Robb Stark got killed, blah, blah, blah.’ And they're like, ‘Yeah, dude. It was like the end-of-Sopranos-level cultural event.’”

While it may seem as though Hill's latter comments would be the statement that launched 1,000 tweets from angry Game Of Thrones fans (partially misplacing their bitterness over the fact that they probably will never get The Winds of Winter), his off-handed comment about everyone's favorite soup-loving alien served as the catalyst for some serious drama, with several news outlets, including Variety, reporting on the slight. Although Grogu remained tight-lipped on the matter – he's presumably too busy being the cutest little 50-year-old in the galaxy to engage in internet spats – Hill took to Instagram on Saturday, slamming the press for “literally trying to create beef between me and Baby Yoda” and reiterating that despite the manufactured drama, he and The Child are actually on relatively good terms.

“I’m getting ahead of it. I wanna say this once on the record officially: Baby Yoda and I are dear friends and text at least once a week,” Hill explained. “We may not be text every day type of friends and yes Covid put a strain on our friendship, but we are all good. And that’s all I will say on this matter!” he continued, asking fans to “please respect our privacy at this time.”

So, folks, here's to our new favorite intergalactic besties – not even the media can tear them apart.
