Grime's 'Proposition For The Communists'? Give AI A Chance

On today's installment of Grimes, well, being Grimes, the Canadian pop star, Princess Peach impersonator, and cautionary tale of why an all-spaghetti diet is a terrible, terrible idea, took to TikTok earlier this week with a highly controversial “proposition for the communists” –  give Artificial Intelligence a chance.

“So typically, most of the communists I know are not big fans of A.I,” said the star in a video posted to the app on Wednesday. “But, if you think about it, A.I. is actually the fastest path to communism." So what, exactly is does a shining, futuristic, communist utopia dreamt up by the on-again-off-again partner of one of the world's richest men entail? Apparently, a whole lot of automated agricultural practices, as according to the star, "enforced farming is really not a vibe.”

“If implemented correctly, A.I. could actually theoretically solve for abundance," the star explained, inexplicably standing in front of a panel from the manga Berserk. “Like, we could totally get to a situation where nobody has to work; everybody is provided for with a comparable state of being, comfortable living. A.I. could automate all the farming, we could out systematic corruption, thereby bringing us as close as possible to genuine equality,” she said, adding that this theoretical utopia would encompass “basically, everything that everybody loves about communism, but without the collective farm."

Yet as several pointed out from the star's now-viral video, it seems that Grimes doesn't actually understand what, exactly is the ultimate goal of communism. “Proponents of this ideology are generally not trying to create a world “where nobody has to work,” but rather a stateless, classless society where people are fairly compensated for their labor and skills, which would in turn eliminate the inequality and suffering brought about by capitalism,” noted Vanity Fair's Emily Kirkpatrick of the video's shortcomings.

Considering this seemingly egregious misunderstanding, the entire internet proceeded to do what they do best when celebrities say something even remotely confusing – proceeding to absolutely roast the hell out of the “Oblivion” singer. From noting her rose-colored view of A.I.  …

… Discussing how her theory would launch several Communist scholars into an existential panic …

… questioning the finances of the whole affair …

… and expressing their immense confusion via screeching robot cats …

… the internet did not hold back in giving the singer a piece of their minds.

So folks, will automated farming singlehandedly dismantle capitalism? Tbh, probably not, but at least we got an amusing TikTok out of it.
