Zooey Deschanel Plays Katy Perry in New Music Video, Recognizing Long-Running Joke

I guess aliens missed the wave of early 2010's celebrity lookalike content ...
Zooey Deschanel Plays Katy Perry in New Music Video, Recognizing Long-Running Joke

It's been the first point on any list of celebrity lookalikes since Katy Perry first kissed a girl back in 2008 -- the dark-haired pop star is undeniably the spitting image of hipster darling, Zooey Deschanel. For a decade and change, the two have been constantly compared, alongside jokes about their paternal lineage ...

...  a proposed reboot of The Shining with the two starring the creepy twins ...

... and even Deschanel admitting to forging Perry's signature when confused fans mistakenly ask her for the pop star's autograph

However, the two have finally come together to make something (although sadly, not a remake of the 1980's horror classic) from their uncanny resemblance. On Monday, Perry released her new music video for "Not the End of the World," in which Deschanel is accidentally abducted by confused, Perry-loving extraterrestrials. If only they had read Cracked circa 2015 and 2011! Then they'd know all about Perry and Deschanel's twindom. SMH.

Anyways, although the She & Him singer attempts to tell the aliens there's been a miscommunication after reading her welcome message, featuring a picture of the pop star with long, dark hair, circa 2010's Teenage Dream alongside hella 2000s clip-art text, they ignore her, taking her to meet their galactic leader. She soon learns that Earth will be destroyed in less than an hour, and that her, er, well, Perry, is to perform at some sort of post-apocalyptic celebration. But not all hope is lost! In the nick of time Deschanel cuts a deal with the aliens who mistakenly abducted her-- she'll pretend to be Perry as long as they save Earth. They agree and of course, in true wholesomely wacky Katy Perry-video fashion, the show goes on, and they all live happily ever after.

According to Rolling Stone, the "California Girls" singer thought of the idea while on maternity leave after having her baby, Daisy Dove Bloom, back in August, and of course, was inspired by their notable resemblance. The song is her latest single off of her sixth album, "Smile," which dropped over the summer.

Moral of the story? If you're an alien looking to abduct a beloved celebrity, always be sure to check out Cracked's famous doppelganger content first. Lest you mildly annoy their famous lookalike.
