'Black Panther's' New Opening Credits Are a Wholesome Tribute To The Late Chadwick Boseman

It's a tribute fit for the King of Wakanda himself. 

Over the weekend, the late Chadwick Boseman, the beloved actor famed for playing Black Panther who passed away in August following a private four-year battle with colon cancer, now has his very own Marvel introduction at the start of his iconic superhero movie, i09 reports. In honor of what would have been Boseman's 44th birthday on Sunday, Disney updated Marvel's opening credits at the beginning of Black Panther, swapping out the classic comic book fare for a beautiful video collage featuring highlights from each of his MCU appearances, including Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, alongside what appears to be promotional stills and behind-the-scenes footage of the actor at work. 

"Long live the King. #WakandaForever," wrote MarvelStudios on Twitter alongside a clip of the introduction. 

Fans first caught wind of the heartwarming tribute after Disney's Executive Chairman and former CEO posted a cryptic tweet urging fans to stream the movie on Disney+ for a special tribute.

"To all fans of #BlackPanther: watch the film on #DisneyPlus late tonight, for a special tribute to someone that was and will always be near and dear to our hearts."

The new intro, which appears approximately six minutes and 23 seconds into the film, has since gone viral, with Marvel's clip acquiring 1.8 million views, and a repost from Geeks of Color garnering more than 81,000 likes. 

The video comes just weeks after The Hollywood Reporter announced that the film's highly anticipated sequel is set to be filmed this July. Although execs have kept quiet on how they plan on approaching Boseman's death in the movie, Marvel indicated they would not be using CGI to digitally add the actor into the film. 

Months after his death, Boseman's passing still stings. He was an incredible actor and perfectly embodied such an important and well-loved superhero. RIP, King T'Challa, we miss you.
